Since the WebOS 1.2 update I am now required to enter a PIN every time I access my phone. It’s a policy pushed by my work because I have my phone connected to their exchange server. Good thing WebOS is Javascript!

Change
setup: function() {
try {
Mojo.Log.info(“Phone App – Pin Assistant — Setup Called”);
this.controller.document.body.className = “firstuse”;
this.setupHandlers();

TO

setup: function() {
this.unlock(); return;

}

Tada! No more annoying PIN.

AppleInsider leads with reports, as user complaints on Apple Support forums begin to mount, of crashes under Snow Leopard when trying to sync their iPod classics, and inability to sync or recognize the iPod under different operating systems. One fix that seems to work in some circumstances is to reset the iPod to factory settings. However, reports have surfaced of the iPod still not syncing with iTunes 9. Read more.

I was reading online about the process for dry aging meat. I came across this post and thought it was really funny.

1. Start with a large piece of met. (8-12 pound roast, whole rib eye) You’ll lose 20% of the weight as the moisture evaporates during the aging process.
2. Chill the meat. Place the meat on a rack inside a large pan. The pan needs to be big enough to catch all the dripping blood. Loosely wrap the meat in cloth (don’t use paper) towels. They also will absorb some of the moisture. Place the meat at the bottom of the fridge where it is the coldest.
3. Keep it fresh. It is imperative that the meat surface stay dry enough that bacterial growth can take over. You must change the towels daily and replace with freshly laundered ones. Drain and rinse the pan. DO NOT BE TEMPTED TO TASTE THE MEAT.
4. Cut and use. After about a week and a half of this drying process, the meat may become dark maroon and the outside skin will feel tacky or even crusty. Now is time to start processing the meat. Make sure you cut off anything that looks like it might kill you. Make a full quarter inch trim all around the outside of the roast. Also cut off anything that has turned green.
5. Cook the meat and pray that no one dies.

Its been a week now since I upgraded from the Palm Centro to the Palm Pre. I am really enjoying the awesome features of the phone. Let’s breakdown the pros and cons.

Pros:

  • Facebook and Gmail integration
    The pre will grab all of your contacts from Facebook and Gmail and sync them to the phone. This is a nice feature that saved me tons time by not making me enter contact information directly into the phone. It will also associate all of your Facebook contacts to their Facebook profile image. So if they call, it will display their current Facebook picture!
  • Multitaskings
    It nice to have the ability to be running an application and switch to another if needed. As an example, I can be running Pandora while I am surfing the web and or sending an email.
  • Smaller form factor
    For me this is a good thing, maybe others would rather have a larger phone but I like the fact that it’s not as large as the iPhone. It fits better in my pocket and seems easier to handle.
  • WebOS
    Palm really did it right when they went with WebOS. It allows for a much more scalable platform then other phones. It makes developing applications much easier and cheaper. You do not need a MAC or have to purchase the developer kit like Apple’s iPhone requires. WebOS applications basically consists of HTML, Javascript and CSS.
  • GPS
    It comes with Sprint navigation with turn by turn navigation that seems to work fairly well.
  • Awesome Email Support
    Allows for multiple Exchange accounts as well as POP and IMAP.
  • Alert system
    There is a little spot at the bottom of the screen were all alerts show up. It’s a nice organized method of displaying information.
  • Cons:

  • Slippery little bugger
    This phone is slippery! It’s so smooth and slick, you have to really keep a good grip on it.
  • Battery Life
    Like any smart phone, the battery life is not impressive.
  • Overall, I really like the phone so far. All of the functionality that I need in a smartphone seems to be present. If you do get a Pre, make sure to check out precentral.net. They offer an application called Homebrew that allows you to install hundreds of Palm Pre applications!
